G-Heart: A Poem

heart22

Life is not unidirectional
Life is not a straight line
Life is not a bed of roses

Sometimes it’s sweet
Sometimes it’s sour
Sometimes it satisfies
Sometimes it sucks

But whatever life presents to you
You could choose gratefulness
You could choose grudginess

Choose joy and you will be lighter
Choose anger and you will be darker
Choose joy and your sight will be clearer
Choose anger and your sight will be dimmer
Choose joy and your character will grow
Choose anger and your character will shrink
Choose joy and you will be inspiring
Choose anger and you will be pitiful

Which G fills  your heart?
Grate-full or Grudge-full?

Inspired by the true life story of a man whom I know. After he arrived home from a trip, he was informed that his only car had been stolen during his absence. His surprising reply was, “Thank God!” When prodded further, “Why will you thank God about a disappointment?” He said,”I thank God we have something that people desire enough to steal. I thank God that it is not us who are going about stealing from others.” It was from Him that I learned, “If you have lost anything, be thankful that you haven’t lost everything.”

So, dear friend, what have you lost? What pains have you experienced in recent times? Choose to remain thankful and in the end, God will be glorified. He will turn everything around in your favor.

Poem: The Chase

As I gaze at the playground
In the school opposite my home
The squeals of cheery children rent the air
And I long for those times
When all that mattered in life
Were play, food and loving parents

My eyes follow the two kids
One chasing the other
Engrossed in play and laughter
They have no worries
No cares, nor concerns
As they relish the chase

The adult life ain’t so naive
It’s a series of chases
An endless string of goals
Following in fleet succession
Sometimes it gets tiring
And all one craves is a break

The chase could be fun
When you are crowned
With success and accolades
After a grueling season of self-denial
And work so tiring

The chase could be cold
When all you get
In return for the cruel
Sacrifice and self-inflicted pain
Is a blunt rejection
A forthright statement
That after all you’ve done
You’re not good enough!

Despite all you face
While you chase the mace
Whether it’s fun or nasty
Remember to play and be nice
And like a little child
Learn to laugh and cheer
In all phases of the chase

Grace

Grace Grace gives you pardon

When you deserved punishment

Grace gives favour

Where you did not labour

Grace makes you a winner

When you’d have been a quitter

Grace dries your tears

When you were limited by fears

Grace gives you hope

When in darkness men left you to grope

I thank God for his grace. I am a product of God’s grace and undeserved mercies. What else can grace do? How has grace helped you in life? Please share in the comments :).

#Poem: Just write

Writer

Something always draws you away to the place of quiet

There’s a rumbling within that dies

only after you’ve put pen to paper

Every time you see a creative piece

An inner voice screams, “You can do that too!”

Writing gives you that sense of satisfaction

Exceeding what money can provide

Strangely, your goal isn’t attention

You don’t care if lots of people read that piece

You just don’t know why you do what you do

It’s ‘cos you were born to write

It’s ‘cos there’s a message in you

It’s ‘cos God wants to use your pen to change lives

So, don’t quench the fire, just write!
